Digital Citizenship

During 2010-2011 the Calgary Regional Consortium has committed to provide leadership to explore the evolutionary nature of digital citizenry and its inherent rights and responsibilities. Through three specially designed events, the CRC will bring together an eclectic group of people to find a new voice, to draw on the literature and join adult and student voice together to create a new voice about Digital Citizenship and its place in teaching and learning in a digital world.
Mishra and Koehler (2006) suggest that teaching with technology is a wicked problem, one riddled with complexity, ambiguity and a need for highly creative solutions. This has never been more evident than when educators seek to establish norms that support the safe, ethical and civil use of technology by students. Here there is a pressing need to move beyond a neat and tidy definition of digital citizenship and accompanying standardized list of norms that fail to introduce the creative solutions and possibility thinking needed in a digital learning environment.
This three part initiative will take place on September 23-24, 2010, January 20, 2011 and March 11, 2011. This wiki will document the learning from these events. Click on the events in the side bar to view resources and key happenings from each event.
